About this event
Sydney Alliance Assembly
You are invited to join over 120 organisations from across Sydney who signed on to the Sydney Alliance submission to the Greater Sydney Commission (GSC).
The assembly will be attended by the NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts.
The Sydney Alliance seeks to demonstrate to the Minister the breadth, depth and diversity of support behind the asks of the Alliance submission to the GSC.
The plans of the Greater Sydney Commission will affect all of our children for generations. As you have no doubt seen in the media the issue of housing affordability is affecting all different parts of Sydney's society; young and old, rich and poor, from Cowan to Katoomba to Heathcote.
The submission outlines how the current plans to include a 5-10% inclusion of affordable housing on new developments, (subject to viability) is an insufficient target to tackle this issue. This target is too low.
We are calling for a higher target of 15% on private land and 30% on public land and globally recognised citizen standard of public transport services. Both of these standards are pegged to cities of comparable size around the world.
The Assembly will be cochaired by:
Donna Easthorpe (Churches Housing, Northwest Baptist)
Joumana Harris (United Muslim Women's Association)
& Leah Emmanuel (Sydney Community Foundation, National Tertiary Education Union)
The gathering will begin at 6:30pm SHARP, with formalities with the Minister commencing at 7pm. The meeting will finish at 8:15pm on the dot, if not earlier.
The Assembly will include a roll-call, testimonies, experts, a response from the Minister, a debrief and call for further action.
Please indicate your organisation in the field provided - including your sub-division and congregation.
Please also indicate your suburb in the field provided - we want to measure and demonstrate the geographic diversity of Sydneysiders that are attending.
The venue is within walking distance of Eastwood Station. Please be aware that street parking is limited and Sydney peak-hour traffic is terrible so please leave adequate time to arrive.
