This is a catered event, with morning tea supplied.
This workshop will explore the role of antipsychotic medications when used in the care of a person with dementia experiencing a responsive behaviour.
The changes in behaviour that often occur with dementia are frequently "managed" with antipsychotic medications. Whilst there are some circumstances in which these medications are effective, their use is associated with a risk of side effects, many of which can be profound.
This workshop will:
- Describe the potential benefits and risks of antipsychotic medications
- Review the current guidelines regarding the use of antipsychotic medications in dementia care
- Provide strategies and resources to improve the quality use of antipsychotic medications for responsive behaviours
